We are finally back! A week later than most of our UK and Canadian friends. Being based in our Spanish office at the moment means that due to the Spanish Christmas Day (Fiesta de los Reyes) being on 6^th January, we are a week behind you all!

We are so excited about 2012 and what it will bring. Firstly, we are positive that 2012 will certainly bring resolution to many of the worries over Europe, UK and the Americas.  We know that the future is not going to be easy in the world of finance, but what we do know is that there is still money to be made and after speaking to many of my clients, people are certainly making money!

First and foremost – let me say I have nothing against the USA.  It’s a great place.

I have friends and family there, whom I love to visit, and there are also some very cool things to do and neat places to visit in the USA.  What I don’t think the USA is – is a great place to invest.  Please - Let me explain.

In the current economic climate, many people will tell you NOW is the time to BUY or it’s a BUYERS market!

This is especially true in the luxury end of the scale. Many people are now downsizing and looking to cash in their assets for retirement and are desperate to sell!

I am finding the headlines irritating lately – It is quite rare that any good financial news is reported; even Apple’s shares are down.

We all know how fragile and volatile the markets are right now – the smallest of incidents sends the markets reeling globally.  When will the constant volatility end? Well that is anyone’s guess.

Since Amanda and I first decided to join forces to create our company Global Investment Solutions 5 years ago, so much has changed!

I remember my opening blog for our first website, reminiscing about my origins in foreign investment (now nearly 13 years ago!). In the last five years we have seen even more change than in the past 15 years of the industry.

The first and biggest change to our own lives has been the birth of our son just over a year ago (see Buccament Bay Page, Directors Visit button). This in its own way helped us direct our business and investments advice.

We realised that at the moment, pensions are losing money, our savings are earning nothing, so how do we prepare for the future of expenses ahead with our son? We have School Fees, clothes, holidays and the overwhelming feeling that we want to be in a comfortable position when we retire.

Pensions cannot offer retirement security any more. If you have paid £30,000 into a pension in the UK over the past 10 or 15 years the amount payable on retirement is so low that you would need government assistance to top it up!!! YES Government assistance! This in essence means your £30,000 is worth nothing! Amanda looked at her Canadian RRSP’s all have dropped in value.
